Hi,

I have written a Paint.NET plug in for loading and saving Photoshop files.

You can download it at

http://frankblumenberg.de/doku/doku.php?id=paintnet:psdplugin

I have testet with several files but I have no Photoshop avaialble (Thats the reason I use Pain.NET) to test the resulting files.

Update:
    1.0.4 (March 13. 2007)
Added support for additional image resources. Hopefully no more errors when opening a file.
      Added support for resolution information.
    1.0.3 (Mai 18. 2006)
Fixed a padding problem with the layer names.
(darknight it should work now for you :D )
Added RLE compression for the image data (not for the layers for now).
    1.0.2 (Mai 15. 2006)
      - Fixed the layer visibility.
      (thanks kelderek)
    1.0.1 (April 13. 2006 )
      - Fixed bad positioning of the layers; the first row and column was missing.
      - Empty layers are no ignored while loading.
      (thanks Bob for testing)

I open a psd file [made with photoshop 5.5] with this plugin and all work [but it was used for an animated gif and i don't know if it mantain animation data].
all the frame inside psd are visible.
I try also to save it into a new psd and it work, but while i try to open it into photoshop 5.5 an error message appears saying that it isn't compatible with this version of photoshop.
    Any idea?
I never had problem with psd, maybe photoshop always save in a compatible mode [i think].
There is a way to say to save in version compatible with older photoshop?

I try to open the psd file saved from paint.net it with photoshop 9 cs and i have the same message.
It seems that the format isn't valid.
    Any idea?

Ps. i try to open a psd saved from photoshop and one saved with paint.net with a text editor
Where photoshop use a return cariage, paint.net use a strange character. i have had the same problem in saving file from asp, it was the encoding type [utf-ansi ... i don't remember which is]. this could be the problem

I see my Endogine psd reader has come to good use and has much improved - great!
As Endogine is public domain, you're free to do whatever you want to with my code, but I wouldn't mind being mentioned in there (as you can see that I've done wherever I've borrowed something), especially the classes/files which are virtually unmodified (except for your added copyright notice :P)
    Thanks!

I can't find source file for this plugin.
But using photoshop i note that isn't possible to mantain data compatible with photoshop.
Photoshop mantain layer effect, layer mask and special information in text layer.
Paint.net doesn't have this information so a psd file made with paint.net cannot mantain this information.
A little problem, until paint.net will implement this feature

The source code is available at the web page. There was a wrong link, which is corrected now.

I loaded the plugin and now I can open my .psd files (mostly from Photoshop CS) but all the layers except background start out as invisible. I can make them visible of course, but sometimes the graphic artists will have extra layers that shouldn't be visible.

Is this a bug or just something that hasn't been implemented yet?

    Thanks for your efforts!
