I'm mostly trying to determine how many users are still sticking with Windows XP SP2 for whatever reason, as opposed to upgrading to Windows XP SP3.

One thing I am considering is bumping up the minimum requirement to XP SP3. This would greatly simplify parts of the Paint.NET installer, and would also reduce the download size.

If you are still using XP SP2, please reply to this thread and tell me why you haven't installed XP SP3 yet! Getting this information is very important. I'm not looking to make any judgements here, I'm simply on a fact-finding mission :)

Thanks!

How to find out what you have: (thanks BoltBait)
"Find your "My Computer" icon (either on your desktop or in your start menu), right-click on it and choose "Properties" from the menu. The "General" tab has the information you seek."

Out of interest, why are you asking forum users what their OS is rather than reading the user agents of download page visitors?

I will look at that as well, but it does not tell the whole story.

Are people refraining from upgrading to SP3 for a specific reason, or just because they don't have auto-updates turned on, or what? Maybe they haven't had the time for it? Maybe they're at a company with 10,000 seats and SP3 hasn't been deployed yet, etc. etc. I just want to know what various reasons people have for sticking with SP2, whether they are emotional, logistical, forgetful, or otherwise.

You misspelled your thread title. :P

BTW, I use Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2.

I'm still on SP2, but only because I haven't had time to upgrade yet. Once finals are done (next week or so), I'll let the updater do its deal.

XP SP2 and not SP3 because I'm on a very slow rural dial-up connection.

I do have auto-update turned on, so it's possible that SP3 is being drip fed to me. At 70mb it may take a while....,

[You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to get 3.5 NET Framework installed in these circumstances. But that's another issue...,]

This weekend may change things as I'm going to try download a number of items (at a different location & speed). SP3 and 3.5 NET included. If they can be slapped onto a DVD rather than installed from a bootstrapper then I'm good-to-go!

I`m using Vista Home Basic SP1 . I`d be interested to know what difference it makes having Vista instead of XP (if any) in the same way that it makes a difference whether you have SP2 or SP3 for XP.

For this poll, and for Paint.NET, it's not relevant in that way.

Both XP SP3 and Vista SP1 have certain components built-in that XP SP2 does not (but they can be installed just fine on XP SP2). These components are required by Paint.NET. If the minimum for Paint.NET is bumped to XP SP3, I can reduce the download size, and simplify the code in my installer.

Here's what you want:

XP SP3 -- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

.NET 3.5 SP1 -- http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... etfx35.exe

Both should fit onto one CD.

You can order Service Pack CDs from Microsoft. I got SP2 that way for free. I looked for SP3, but it costs this time. 8$ or something.

And I've Vista here, but my mother still have the old XP at her's, updated to SP3 by the wire :)
